Details of supplier of the safety data sheet: Company: Impact Biologicals Inc., 715 Harvard Avenue, Swarthmore, PA, 19081, USA. Telephone: +1 610-543-6320. eMail: info@impactbio.com. Emergency telephone number: +1 610-543-6320.

2. Hazards identification

Not known to be hazardous. However, prion proteins from certain natural (non-recombinant) sources have been linked with several neurological diseases in man and animals. The possibility that recombinant prion proteins could cause similar diseases cannot be ruled out. Accordingly, it is strongly advised that wastes containing this material should be autoclaved before disposal.

3. Composition/Information on ingredients

Recombinant prion protein, less than 1%. No CAS identifier.

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, 0.1 mM. CAS no. 60-00-4.

Sodium phosphate, 10 mM, pH 5.8. CAS no. 7782-85-6.

4. First aid measures

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash affected area with plenty of water. Avoid eating, drinking or inhaling. If product is consumed or inhaled, call a physician.

5. Fire fighting measures

Product is not flammable. No chemicals known to be harmful would be released by heating or vaporizing the product.

6. Accidental release measures

In case of spills, wipe up with absorbant material (paper towel or vermiculite) then autoclave. Wash contacted surfaces with disinfectant.

7. Handling and storage

Not chemically reactive. Wear gloves and protective goggles. Do not eat, drink or apply cosmetics when using this product.

8. Exposure controls/personal protection

No known exposure limits. However, wear gloves and protective goggles when handling this product.

9. Physical and chemical properties

Clear liquid solution (water with dissolved salts and protein). Not flammable. This product is more than 98% water and is expected to have similar physical properties as water.

10. Stability and reactivity

This product is is not flammable or reactive. The protein component (rPrP) could lose activity during storage, especially if not kept cold; however, the degradation products are not toxic or reactive.

11. Toxicological information

Not tested.

12. Ecological information

None available.
